Gray Blocking

The level design we created as a group, we decided that it would be a great Idea to work on a gray blocking. this is where they layout of the room or our level would only be created by Plain objects(none Textured). The purposes of this are to give a clear idea of out level layout in our prison game we are creating.

Piotr( Character design)  decided to create a simple looking gray blocking layout for one of our rooms. This would help us to design the layout and structure the quality of our levels.

Reflecting on this projects, even though I didn’t design this particular level even tho I am the level designer for this project  I will have a better understanding on how our game will progress in the future and what paths it will take.

Game HUD Design Wip

This post will tell you the different types of HUDs we were planning to put into our game. I will also show you the progression of the HUDs through Drawings and Create digital concept.

The task our group we planned to do today was to create different types of HUD for our 2D side stroller game. our side scroller consists of being in a prison environment, So I had to think of different HUDS  that would suite these environments.  I have come up with  12 different design’s for a HUD up to now.

2D side scroller Environment

This Blog will give you visual pictures  of the progress of our Group environment, The visuals will include traditional drawings Digital Concepts and 3D  modeling.

level desgin idea 1 Basement.pngThe Design of this level was to make you feel like you are underground. The Black color stands for dirt/deep and underground. I have put cracks in the walls floors to make the place seem old and used like a basement. 22/11/2016.

Here is a colored concept of my sketch.  I made this in adobe photoshop.  In the picture you can see an x-ray machine, waiting area, lockers to store or hide in when playing the game, beds and chemical facility.   First aid room.png

I have also scanned in my power room level for our prison design.  To improve for the next time do it this level design or something similar is I would use a ruler to get the straight edges and add shadows in the background where the machinery is.img001.jpgpower room second storage room.png

Prison Game Idea (2D Side scroller)

How Do We communicate  As a group when we are Out of study?

We use a Website based on communication ,Padlet is grate for this situation .

What is Padlet?

Padlet is a virtual wall that allows people to express their thoughts on a common topic easily to one an other.

The Website is a live update so when you type something on your computer it transmits live feed to your group.

Each person in my group as a To Do list This allows the group to keep on track and keep organised.

For my To Do list at the moment I have to do what is listed below. But this can change over time so to keep up to date here.

-Research Different levels in a video game (2D).
-Draw out different genres of Sci Fi levels.
-Design a prototype level in UE4(Unreal engine 4)
-Draw and Photoshop each concept I make of each level.
-Discuss each level with the team and pick which level to decide on.

Prison Layout

Pitch

For my Prison Idea as a group, we came up with a unique shape for our prison, since that you wouldn’t see the outside of the prison it didn’t matter what it looked like.

The prison is an easy shape to model, the layout was designed by Piotr Pisarki he did a concept of the prison and I recreated The layout in 3ds max. The prison consists of work stations and medical bays on the ground floor.while the 1st floor contains Cells  and washrooms. I am to design the cells, I only had to work with one cell because I can just re-use that same cell throughout the prison.

Prison Concept-Art

This post will show you some concepts I have created using 3ds max and Photoshop. I spent some time and really enjoyed modeling this small prison cell for our group game. This is only reflective work so I can come back to it at a later date. I created everything in the cell and the file saves will be on a USB stick in hand in.

Here you will find Some concept art I have been working on. I worked in 3ds Max to develop the scene of what would it look like to be inside of a cell….

Once I developed my cell in 3DS Max I then exported each prop what was made into UE4(Unreal Engine 4). The props were assigned into their position to create a cell.  The props can be placed anywhere so this leaves you to create any cell you like, So be creative?

I used Photoshop to color over my 3D model to give it a more realistic or an Idea what it will look like when Textured.screenshot00034Prison hallway.png

Prison Research

For My prison research I decided to use a reference of a TV series “prison Break”, The  TV consists of learning the outcome When you are sent to prison. It gives you  an idea on what Life is like behind the walls. In prison  inmates group up and protect there own from other people if your on your own then you venerable to  been attack.

what to expect in prison:

Many people try to compensate by focussing on key expectations or milestones such as what might happen and when it might happen (from cleaning and food to visits and telephone calls).People Go into prison with  expectation .(not making friends or cooperate with different groups to keep out of trouble.

What you actual feel in prison:

I haven’t been to prison nor I don’t plan on going there but if I was in the shoes of a person who is to be sentenced  to prison, I would feel depressed scared and lonely, The moment I step into the cell you realise that your life  outside the wall Is OVER,(depending on your sentencing time). The first night will feel long and Painful just thinking about life outside the walls, Or what would life would be like if I didn’t create the crime I did. My full life will just start to crumble away with family become more distant from you, As a person I would feel home sick missing spending time with loved ones. (This is why a lot of prisoners Try and brake out of prison  if there serving  life.

How would I Implant this into a game?

The Game Would consist  of doing further research or even visiting a prison just to see what life is like inside the walls.

My game will have  4 different cell blocks to separate  each race from each other(This will Bring less violence  to each race). The prison will be based off a reference, Maybe on a island?

The game will carry out on how the character feels . Like what I said In “What you actual feel in prison” The aim of the game will to Brake out by using tactics in the game and to make friends to work together so that you do have a chance of braking out. These friends will be based on who you choose.

planning will be a big part of an mechanic in the game. planning to brake out of prison  you will need  a maximum of 5 people. depending  on how many people you  work with  to brake out of prison , lets say you have 5 people to help you  the difficulty will be easy and if there was less to work with the harder it went , Because of the more work you had to do.(Grater chance of getting caugh.

Interface and Aesthetics

prison-cell-hudprison-hud

Good UI provide relevant information to the player quickly and clearly.  The HUD  provides good visual elements to the user about the game. The UI can also display visual effects such as weather, Blood and triggered areas. this will give the user a realistic effect on the person they are controlling.

The HUD  can show you many different mechanics such as Ammo, your gun, Hints and  health, and stamina.

The HUD can be important but most users like to play with no HUD. Playing with no HUD makes the user more free to do what he want in the game.It also makes the game a lot harder and more realistic for the user.

some games use there HUD in many different ways such as using a map to track every movement of your character, also the time of day (clock) or even how much money you have earned in game. The reference  I have used are a couple of images from the GTA franchise. The HUD is quick easy and clear for the user top see and it easier to remember(you don’t want a HUD that is too CLUTTERED and in your face ) Your HUD should never force a player to do something.

This GUI is an interactive inventory system.  The GUI shows you a Big picture at the bottom of your selected weapon.  In this interactive menu, the user can Store inventory on to the character.

Target Platforms and Demographics 2

For our group  project  we have decided  for our game to be for 18+ and  2D  side scroll. we have chosen for our audience  to be adults because it gives us alot to play about with ,Idea wise. The game Will involve having to find weapons or crafting, Exploration, Quests from other NPC ,Blood, fighting and much more. we have really thinked about our Audience  and as part of the  group this was a good direction for us to face.

The game will involve you (the player) to wonder the prison and find small quests though out the prison ,weather that’s in the power room , storage room or somewhere you shouldn’t be JUST DON’T GET COUGH  otherwise you might have to restart that level again. And this would add frustration to the player and wanting to comeback to the game to complete the level.
